If you've never been to
a live auction before,
we have quite a treat in
store for you. If you
are a seasoned bidder,
then you know the
exhilaration of casting
the winning bid.
Audubon's Auctioneers,
which is located in
Audubon, New Jersey, is
Camden County's premier
source of quality
antiques, older
furnishings and
collectibles from local
Delaware Valley estates.
Previewing Items
Previews
for our "Antique Sales",
which fall on a
Saturday, are held on
Friday from 9:00am until
7:00pm and the morning
of the sale from 9:00am
until sale time.
Registering to Buy
Registering to buy (bid)
at Audubon's is very
simple. Just walk up to
the administration desk,
which is located
opposite and to the left
of the front entrance to
the building. State to
the administrator that
you would like to
register for the current
auction. She will ask
you for your address and
telephone number as well
as proof of
identification (usually
a driver's license will
do). You will then be
assigned a bid ticket.
This ticket is what you
use to bid at the
auction.
Bidding
Each item to
be auctioned will be
announced by lot number
and description. If
light enough, the piece
will also be held up
high by the auctioneer's
assistant for everyone
to see. Bidding will
open at whatever price
the auctioneer deems
fair. Bidding will
continue until the piece
is sold.
To bid
on any item at
Audubon's, you must hold
a valid bid ticket for
the sale. To cast a bid,
simply hold up your
ticket when the
auctioneer calls for the
next highest bid. Then
watch to see if anyone
else casts a bid higher
than yours. And listen
for the final call.
Should you be unable to
attend the auction...
An Audubon's
representative can bid
for you. Prior to the
auction, tell us (either
in person or by
telephone) what your
highest bid would be on
the item. Audubon's will
try to purchase the item
for as little as
possible, never
exceeding your limit. If
your absentee bid is
successful, you will be
notified by phone within
a few days of the sale.
A
thought for first time
bidders...
Watching and
listening are the keys
to successful bidding.
Do not be bashful if
you've never been to a
live auction before. You
won't be alone. And,
yes...practice does make
perfect! So consider
bidding on an item that
you would like, but that
won't cause great
disappointment should
you not be the winning
bidder.
Buyer's Premium
The buyer's
premium at Audubon's is
15% and is the amount
that the buyer pays in
addition to the final
bid price (or hammer
price) for any item.
Wherever applicable, New
Jersey sales tax (6%)
will be added to the
final amount of your
purchase (s).
